Mitton Manor Primary School

Mitton Manor Primary School

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Year 3 is an exciting year for the children as it is their first year in Key Stage 2. We ensure the transition to the Juniors is smooth to enable the children to settle in quickly and comfortably.

Autumn Term

Our topic this term is ‘Tumbling Through Time’. We will be focusing on the books, 'Mark of the Cyclops' and 'Alice in Wonderland'. We will also be exploring Ancient Greece in History. In Science lessons, we will be learning about rocks and how to work scientifically. We will be practicing our geographical fielding skills in Geography. Excitingly, the children will also have the opportunity to learn how to play the viola during our whole class music sessions. During computing lessons, we will have a focus on keeping safe online and coding. Mr Sallis will be teaching the children every Monday and will be delivering PE and Computing sessions.

Spring Term

Our topic this term is 'Best of British'. We will be focusing on the book, "The Accidental Prime Minister". In Science, we will be looking at animals and living things. We will also be exploring plants. In Art and DT, we will be looking at British artists across the years with the children. During PE sessions, we will be going swimming at Tewkesbury School. We will be raising money for a chosen charity and working as a class to organise a fund raiser. In Geography sessions, we will study locational knowledge of the UK. During History, we will be seeing how sources can be used when investigating historical events but sometimes contradict each other.

Summer Term

Our topic this term is 'Incredible Journeys'. We will be exploring many famous journeys with a particular focus on a journey back to Ancient Egypt. In Year 3 this term, we will be mummifying a tomato as part of our History and Science sessions. We will also be looking at compass points and grid references in Geography. In Art, we will be turning ourselves in Pharaohs using collage and making Egyptian Canopic Jars.

Useful Websites

All children in Year 3 have a Times Table Rockstars login. Times Table Rockstars is a fantastic website for children to practise their times tables. https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/26502

Sometimes, Miss Minchella may set homework on the Purple Mash website. Your child will also have a login for Purple Mash. Purple Mash is amazing for exploring ICT objectives such as coding or keeping safe online. https://www.purplemash.com/sch/mitton

BBC Bitesize is a wonderful website for all subjects. There are many tutorials online that can help support your child's learning. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/levels/zbr9wmn
