Autumn Term

Our topic this term is ‘Groovy Greeks’. We will be focusing on the books, 'Beasts of Olympus: Beast Keeper' and 'Atticus and the Ancient Greeks'. We will be reading these as our class reads and, then, discussing and comprehending them during our Guided Reading sessions.

In English lessons, we will be exploring a variety of writing purposes, such as persuasive leaflets, story writing and poetry. Our Maths units will centre on developing our place value knowledge and we will learn new methods to solve calculations. We will be exploring Ancient Greece in History and we will be practicing our geographical fieldwork skills in Geography. In Science lessons, we will be learning about the importance of nutrition, animals' skeletons and muscles, and the functions of different parts of plants. This links well with our CPSHE topic of Health and Wellbeing. As part of PE, we will be playing football and choreographing a dance routine. During Computing lessons, we will have a focus on presentational skills and how technology is used around us. In Art sessions, we will be creating an image of a Greek temple using different media and creating some Harvest artwork. During D&T, we will be designing and making a pneumatic mythical creature. Excitingly, we will also be performing in the KS2 Christmas Carol Concert!

Spring Term

Our theme this term is 'Best of British'. We will be reading the book, "The Accidental Prime Minister" and analysing it during our Guided Reading sessions.

In English lessons, we will be focusing on persuasive writing techniques by writing speech, and we will be writing biographies about famous, significant British individuals. Our Maths units will be multiplication and division, fractions, and shape. We will be studying how Britain is ruled in History and we will be developing our knowledge of the United Kingdom in Geography. This includes identifying different landmarks and geographical features. In Science lessons, we will be learning about forces and magnets. This will be consolidated during our school trip to Thinktank! Our CPSHE topics are about keeping safe and rights and respect. As part of PE, we will be enhancing our gymnastic skills and the children will developing their tennis skills and gameplay. During Computing lessons, we will have a focus on how to be safe online. We will also use and apply our skills to create some computer art. In Art sessions, we will be creating a Union Jack collage and, during D&T, we will be consolidating our knowledge of food groups and ingredients to prepare for our cooking lessons, where we will be making (and eating) scones for our British Tea Party. The children will also create their own school anthem, inspired by the National Anthem, in our Music sessions.

Summer Term

Our topic this term is ‘Walk Like An Egyptian’. We will be reading the book, "The Ancient Egypt Sleepover" and we will discuss and comprehend it in our Guided Reading sessions.

In English lessons, we will be focusing on writing to entertain, demonstrating the descriptive writing skills we have learnt over the year, for example, characterising speech and using different ways to construct sentences. Our Maths units will be measuring length, capacity, time, and statistics. We will be exploring Ancient Egypt in History and we will be comparing the similarities and differences between places in Geography. In Science lessons, we will be learning about how different types of rock are formed and exploring light and how we see objects. Our CPSHE topic explores our mental health and understanding what a healthy mind and brain are. As part of PE, we will be practising our athletic skills and the children will be participating in swimming lessons every week. During Computing lessons, we will have a focus on coding and programming. In Art sessions, we will be turning ourselves into Pharaohs using collage and, during D&T, we will be designing and making Egyptian collars using stitching. In addition, we will be going on a school trip to the Ashmolean Music in Oxford to become Egyptologists!
