Mitton Manor Primary School

Mitton Manor Primary School

Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Year 3 is an exciting year for the children as it is their first year in Key Stage 2. We ensure the transition to the Juniors is smooth to enable the children to settle in quickly and comfortably.

Our topic this term is ‘Tumbling Through Time’. We will be focusing on the books, 'Where the Wild Things Are' and 'Tom's Midnight Garden'. We will also be exploring Ancient Greece in History. In Science lessons, we will be learning about animals, including humans, and forces and magnets. We will be practicing our geographical fielding skills in Geography. Excitingly, the children will also have the opportunity to learn how to play the violin during our whole class music sessions. During computing lessons, we will have a focus on keeping safe online. Mrs Pinchin will be teaching the children every other Wednesday and will be delivering Art, D&T and French sessions.

General information:

  • Homework will be given out on a Friday via Seesaw and needs to be submitted by the following Wednesday.
  • Spelling words will be set every Monday and tested the following Monday.
  • Our PE day this term is Friday. Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school every day as PE day may change occasionally.
  • Children are allowed to bring in their own pencil cases but this is not a requirement.
  • The Accelerated Reader programme will be used to assess the children's reading. Children will be asked to bring their reading book and reading record into school every day. Year 3 children, parents, staff and school volunteers are all able to write in the children's reading records.
