Welcome to Year One
Year One is a busy and exciting year where lots of fun learning happens! In Year One, we will be working towards and encouraging the children to become more independent. They will be given opportunities to learn through play. However, throughout the year we will gradually build upon this and increase the amount of structured work.
As your child continues through the year, there will be a continued focus on phonics. All children should have a secure knowledge of phonics up to level 5 (Twinkl Phonics). In June 2024, each child will complete the Phonics Screening Check which will assess how well children can decode words. In order to do this, children will need to be able to recognise letters and the sounds that they represent.
The Year One team work together with all staff to ensure children are engaged and happy at school.
