Mitton Manor Primary School

Year 1

In Year One, Mrs Brown and Miss Downes help us every day with our work. We have so much fun learning through play. We are becoming more independent in our work as we start to follow the national curriculum.

Our PE day is Wednesday and our spelling checks are on Monday. New spelling words are sent home via Seesaw on a Monday. Maths and English/Topic homework are sent home via Seesaw on Friday.

We have weekly updates on Seesaw about all the fun we get up to in Year 1. Please look out for this on your announcements on Seesaw smiley

Please don't hesitate to pop in and see us if you have any questions! smiley

This term, we are focusing on 'Our Planet'. We will be learning all about sustainability, recycling, climate change and Sir David Attenborough. These topics link perfectly to our science, geography and history objectives where we are looking at everyday materials, our local area and a significant figure who has had an impact both nationally and internationally.

This term we are exploring 'The Enchanted Woods'. We will start by looking at The Magic Faraway Tree and write our own stories using lots of amazing description. We will then look at 'The Jolly Postman' and 'The Jolly Christmas Postman' and the different fairytale characters which appear on his travels. In Science, we are exploring different animals and animal classification. We had a fantastic trip to Cotswold Wildlife Park in October where we learnt all about the different animals there.

In History, we will be learning about Mary Anning and how fossils are made. We will be writing newspaper articles about her amazing discovery. smiley
